Please read and accept our Terms & Conditions before you make a booking.

Booking and Payment

The full balance of your stay is due at the point of booking. The contract becomes effective when payment is received and a booking confirmation is received showing the confirmed holiday dates.

You must be 18 years and over at the time of booking.

We reserve the right to refuse a booking without giving any reason.

Cancellations

All cancellations must be notified in writing by e-mail. Any cancellation made 6 weeks prior to your confirmed stay will result in a full refund, minus a £75 handling fee. If we are notified of a cancellation within 6 weeks of your stay, this will result in your entire rental amount being forfeited. If we can re-sell your booking, you will just forfeit a £75 handling fee. Foot of the Downs is not obliged to attempt to resell your booking.

We recommend you take out UK travel insurance when you make your booking.

Foot of the Downs will not cancel your booking except in exceptional circumstances beyond our control. We will inform you of the cancellation as soon as possible and a full refund will be issued and we will not be under any other liability.

Occupancy

Our Nightingale shepherds hut is available for bookings of two adults.

The Lapwing and Skylark pod are suitable for 2 adults and 2 children (16 years and under) or for 4 adults. Please be aware the pods are open plan so for four adults there is not a separate bedroom for extra privacy, there is a sofa bed.

In the pods, it may be possible to accommodate one extra child, please contact us in this instance before booking.

Only those listed on the booking form may stay in the accommodation.

Group Bookings

We do not accept hen or stag party groups or similar types of groups. No parties or events on the site, and no more than 10 people in total allowed to stay overnight on the site at one time.

Extra visitors

In accordance with current Covid 19 guidelines, and in order to safeguard the comfort and security of all our guests, extra visitors are not permitted. Only those booked to stay at Foot of the Downs may come on site.

Site Rules/Code of conduct

We ask all guests to respect and look after the site and the accommodation you are staying in. Please leave your accommodation and any part of the site that you have enjoyed in the same condition you found it.

  • The accommodation is in a designated field but on a working farm. There may be tractors and machinery moving around close to the Foot of the Downs site.
  • Children must be supervised at all times.
  • No noise after 10.30pm.
  • No amplified music
  • No naked flames including tea lights and candles, either inside or outside the accommodation. No chinese lanterns.
  • Drunken, abusive or inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated.
  • Leave no trace on the land. We provide bins in your accommodation and in the car and bike parking area. Please use them.
  • Foot of the Downs is situated in the South Downs International Dark Skies Reserve. We aim to minimise light spill around the site in order than all our guests can enjoy this unique dark skies experience at its best. We ask that all curtains and blinds in your accommodation are closed after dusk.
  • Please adhere to the Countryside Code during your stay, there is a link from our website, and a copy of the Code within your visitor pack in the accommodation.
  • Please respect the neighbours and keep noise levels low when arriving at and leaving the Foot of the Downs site.

If the site regulations are breached, in serious circumstances, we may ask you to terminate your stay without a refund.

Arrival and departure

Check-in is from 3pm on the day of arrival. Please inform us if you will be arriving after 6pm. We encourage you to arrive during daylight hours as we have minimal artificial lighting at the site due to our rural location in the South Downs National Park. We provide torches for the walk from the car park to the accommodation as there is a short walk. We also provide wheelbarrows to bring your luggage to your accommodation. Guests self-check in using a key safe at their accommodation. We will send out instructions and the code for the key safe a few days before arrival.

 

Please check-out by 11am on your day of departure. Please leave your key in the key safe outside your accommodation. Any damaged or lost keys will be charged for.

 

Please leave your accommodation clean and tidy and in the same condition as you found it on arrival.

If there has been any damage or breakages during your stay, we would be grateful if you could report them promptly. You will be responsible for the cost of any damage to the accommodation or its contents caused by you or by any member of your party. Foot of the Downs reserve the right to charge reasonable replacement costs to the payment card used at the time of their booking, or invoice guests following their stay for damage.

It is the guest’s responsibility to lock up their accommodation when they are away from the site. Foot of the Downs cannot be held responsible for any of the guest’s personal belongings brought to the site.

Liability

Guests must take all necessary steps to safeguard themselves, their property and valuables during their stay. Foot of the Downs is not held liable for loss or damage to any valuables or property.

Whilst we take every care to keep guests safe, we are a working farm with machinery and live animals. We are not held liable to you or your party, for accidents or injuries, while staying on the site.

Children

We welcome children in the Skylark and Lapwing pods. Guests are responsible for the safety and security of their children at all times. Never leave children without adult supervision. At times, there will be sheep or cows in the field adjoining the site, we ask that children and adults do not walk into the field.

Access

We reserve the right to enter the accommodation at any time to undertake essential maintenance or for inspection purposes. We would contact you to make arrangements unless it was deemed an emergency.

Parking

We have a designated parking area with one allocated car space for each accommodation unit. There is an electric car charging point available for your use, at a small cost.

Bikes

We have a bike rack in a designated locked shed where you can store your bike. We will have bike locks available for your stay, at a small cost. Bikes are not allowed in the pods or the shepherds hut.

We accept no responsibility for damage or theft of your bike.

Pets

We welcome one well behaved dog in the Lapwing or Skylark pod per stay. As we are a working farm, we ask dogs are kept on leads around the site. At times, there will be livestock in the field next to the accommodation site therefore we ask all dogs staying are well behaved around livestock and in no circumstances chase or frighten the livestock.

  • Please bring your own dog bed.
  • We provide a dog washing station in the car park and ask that dogs are washed off and dried before entering your accommodation.
  • Please do not allow dogs on the furniture, especially sofas and beds. – Please ensure your dog is clean before entering the accommodation.
  • Guests are responsible for cleaning up after their dog around the site. Dog mess must be cleaned up immediately.
  • Please do not leave your dog unattended in the accommodation.
  • Dogs must be kept under close control at all times around the site and supervised by a responsible adult.
  • You must agree to settle costs for any damage done by your dog, in your accommodation or around the site.

Please note: We cannot accept certain breeds of dogs in accordance with the Dangerous Dog act 1991. Any dog known as a Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, Fila Braziliero or any dog used for fighting or has the appearance of a dog bred for fighting or has to legally wear a muzzle.

Firepits

A Firepit is provided for each accommodation unit. Only adults may use the fire pits. Please make sure children are supervised around the firepit at all times. Each firepit can be used as a BBQ. The firepit must never be moved. Only wood purchased from Foot of the Downs can be used for the firepits. Please do not collect any wood from the farm or woodland for burning.

Please use the designated Fire pit utensils that are provided.

Smoking

Our pods and shepherds hut are strictly NO SMOKING. Smoking is strictly prohibited inside our accommodation and on the Foot of the Downs site.

Linen and Towels

Bedding for the double bed and sofa bed (in the pods) is provided.

Towels are also provided. Please bring your own outside/beach/dog towels and do not remove our bedding or towels from the accommodation.

We reserve the right to charge reasonable replacement costs for any spoilt linen or towels due to misuse.

Complaints

We hope that you have a wonderful stay with us but if you have a concern or complaint please notify us immediately and we will try to resolve it as soon as possible. In no circumstances will compensation be made for complaints raised after the holiday period has ended.
